Starting in 2026, the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) will begin actively enforcing a long-dormant city ordinance that mandates soil quality inspections for any new turfgrass installation. This rule has been part of the city code for almost two decades but has never been previously enforced. “Beginning January 1, 2025, SAWS will implement a new irrigation plan review requirement: Locations installing new irrigation systems will be required to submit irrigation design plans to SAWS for review and approval. The most common occurrence will be for newly constructed single family residential and irrigation only commercial accounts. SAWS staff will be available at both presentations to review the process for submitting plans, what’s required for approval of plans, and address your questions” You will not want to miss this opportunity.
